Everything you need to know about a Hardwire Kit front your Dashcam
As a (future) owner of a dashcam, you try to increase the safety around your car. This way, you always have clarity on who is liable. Besides the risk moments while driving, these also exist when your car is parked. At that moment, there is no one to keep an eye on your car for any damage. However, this is not necessary with the parking mode that is on your dashcam. With the Hardwire Kits we offer, you can further upgrade the best dashcam and ensure that your car is monitored even while parked! We explain how this works in detail.
Parking mode
When the dashcam is connected via the Hardwire Kit, parking mode is possible. You can set this up through the settings on the dashcam or via the app. The parking mode has three different options for recording. The first is automatic motion detection. The dashcams are equipped with a motion sensor. This ensures that the dashcam can turn on by itself when it detects movement. There is also a time lapse recording option in which the dashcam records a video at low frames without audio. Lastly, there is low bitrate recording, where the dashcam uses low bitrate to record video and audio. Additionally, it uses small files to store the footage. In these three ways, the dashcam can record footage of any damage caused by other parked cars or vandalism. These options also ensure that your SD card does not fill up immediately and help prevent the battery from running out. Parking mode is also suitable for 2 and 3 channels. In parking mode, the dashcam records in front of and behind the car, providing even more visibility around the vehicle.
Connection
In our range, we only have dashcams with parking mode. This mode cannot be used without a Hardwire Kit. If this is missing, you won't get the most out of your dashcam. A Hardwire Kit connects to the electrical system of a car. This provides the dashcam with direct power supply instead of relying on the cigarette lighter. The voltage regulator converts the power supply to a lower voltage that the dashcam needs. The Hardwire Kits have, in addition to a red wire (constant power cable) and a black wire (ground cable), also a yellow wire. This is essential front using a dashcam. Because this is an ACC cable and it connects to a fuse that only provides power when the ignition is on. This wire ensures front the dashcam does not receive continuous power and drains the battery when the car is off. As a result, the dashcam automatically turns on when you turn on the ignition and automatically goes into parking mode when you turn off the ignition.
Depending on the car, the way you connect the Hardwire Kit can vary. That’s why we also offer different fuses to make it easier. We sell ATC, ATS, Micro2, and Mini fuses in packs of 2. We also have a value pack in which we offer each fuse twice. Installing the dashcam with a Hardwire Kit can sometimes be tricky. Therefore, we recommend having it done at the garage. This takes them little time, and the wiring can be hidden as well as possible. This makes it almost a wireless dashcam.
